
Allison Brooks Janney (born November 19, 1959)[2] is an American actress. Her performance on screen as well as on stage were a highlight of her career that spanned three decades. Janney has received various accolades which include the Academy Award, a British Academy Film Award as well as the Golden Globe Award, and seven Primetime Emmy Awards, in addition to receiving nominations to win the two Tony Awards. Janney was born and raised in Dayton and Boston by her parents, received a scholarship from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art for her to study further after finishing Kenyon College. Janney was first seen on television in 1999 in the role of C. J. Cregg in the role of C. J. Cregg in the political drama of NBC The West Wing (2000-2006). She was awarded four Primetime Emmy Awards for this character. In 2014, she was awarded the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding guest actor in an Drama Series for her role as Margaret Scully on the Showtime period drama Masters of Sex.
