Feminist Frequency - a not-for profit site for education that investigates the representation of women in pop culture narratives - is created and is directed by Sarkeesian. Committed to destroying the stereotypes of women that exist in pop media, she is also working with issues that relate to the gender-specific harassment of women as well as different classes of individuals on the internet. With a master's in the field of political and social thinking from York University Sarkeesian is also a much sought-after public presenter and has presented talks at the TEDxWomen XOXO festival as well as the United Nations' Broadband Working Group on Gender. She has been interested in the gender issue and feminist movements at a early age. In 2009, when she was continuing to study at the university level she launched the Feminist Frequency site. The ambitious lady planned to launch a web series on gender-based representations in video games. She found herself the target of a harassment online campaign. This attack was not enough to deter her. Instead, it made her more committed to be a feminist as well as media critique. To honor the numerous achievements she's made for feministism, she's the recipient of numerous awards. Anita Sarkeesian has been a media critic for several years and is the founder of Feminist Frequency. This educational nonprofit explores women's representations in pop culture narratives.
